Subject: ETX 90RA Astro wont track Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2008 19:50:36 From: Charles Powell (powel_charles@yahoo.com) Mike, my ETX 90 RA ASTRO will not stay on track when I try to view the moon or star feilds. I try to set it up in polor setting and think that I may be off target. Would this make it not track? what is the right way to set it up? Thank you for your time. Also using your site I was able to repair the light telescope. There were many things wrong with it but I got it for free when I got a tripode on ebay. CharlesMike here: Have you set the mount up for your latitude? Also, check the position of the N-S switch on the bottom of the base. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere it should be on the N position.
And:
I live in pasadena Texas and set my latitude at 29' 45min.. I got this from my GPS unit. The switch is set for N. I just don't know if I am setting ture north right. Would this be the cause of it not tracking? Thanks for your time. CharlesMike here: The telescope's polar axis does need to be aligned to True North (not Magnetic North. For most purposes you can use the star Polaris. With the OTA parallel to the fork arms (or the DEClination scale set for 90 degrees, if you know it is accurately aligned) point the telescope so that you can see Polaris in the eyepiece.

This web site is unique in providing such high quality info on these little scopes. Doug: The photos are perfect. I now have all the info I need to get my drive back up and working. Thanks so much for taking the time to do the dis-assembly, photos, and re-assembly. Phil Babcock Westford, MA
Subject: re: Dead Clock Drive Board on ETX-90 RA Sent: Wednesday, April 2, 2008 06:12:19 From: Doug Wayland (bell206@telus.net) I have taken some photos of the circuit board in my ETX 90 RA for Phil. It was hard to get the light right so you could see the circuits in the photo. If these aren't good, I can try again. Let me know. Thanks for a great and informative site.
