Subject: Lunar image with the cheapest setup Sent: Sunday, January 19, 2003 3:38:36 From: bpinnington@hotmail.com (William Pinnington) This is the first image that I took with my ETX 90 EC (January 17th, 2003 at 19:40.) I'm saving up for a 'proper' digital camera, but was curious to see what my Digital Dream l'espion camera would see. If you are not familiar with the camera, it is one of those 'cheap-and-nasty' digital cameras that are the size of a matchbox. It only cost 30, and the pictures I took during the daylight were so naff, that its been in the cupboard pretty much ever since I got it. Anyhow I hand held it over the Meade 26mm Super Plossl I got with the scope, through the Meade #126 2x Telenegative Barlow Lens, and took 2 pictures. This one is the best of the two. It just goes to show that even the cheapest digital cameras are capable of credable shots. Oh, and this was taken through double glazing too! All the best, Bill
Subject: Astrophotography with inexpensive cameras Sent: Monday, February 3, 2003 12:04:11 From: bpinnington@hotmail.com (William Pinnington) I have managed to take a picture OF the little digital camera I mentioned in my previous email. I thought it might give you more of an idea about just how small this thing is. It really does make for steady hand held shots. It takes 1 AAA battery, although I don't use it as there is a USB cable provided with it which allows for it to be powered by the computer. This puts the camera into video mode (rather like a web cam), and the software lets you capture the image. Once the snow has cleared, and I get some decent viewing I will give it a more thorough testing and submit some more images for your gallery. Kind regards, Bill Manchester, UK.
