Jump to the start of today's update
Sent: Sunday, February 8, 2009 12:14:26 From: MJS (mjscharmack@beyondbb.com) I have inadvertently downloaded and installed the wrong Build into my Meade Autostar #497 and it junked the unit. Here's how to fix it: 1. Always keep a copy of your older working Build copy (ie. 43Ea). Otherwise go to Meade's website (meade.com) and download it. Click on "Downloads" then click on "AutoStar Update." Near the bottom of the page you will see "Autostar Model #497 version 43Eg (479 KB) is available. Click on the "43Eg" and save it to your computer. Remember this is a Zip file so you must have a program to unzip it. 2. Unzip 43Eg and place only the "Build43Eg.rom" file into the following directory: C:\Program Files\Meade\AutostarSuite\Updater You don't have to unzip the "readme43Eg.txt" file there (its just wasted space used) 3. On your #497 controller, hold down the "Enter" and the "Scroll Down" key at the same time and turn on the Autostar controller on the telescope's mount. It will come up with some wording that the Autostar unit is ready to accept a flash update. 4. Start the Autostar Update program and select the "Update Autostar Software Now" 5. Select the radio button for Local: Select from versions on the hard drive: 6. You will see a selection bar and it may still have 59Ef available, go to the arrow down and click it. It will fold down all available Builds available and click on "43Eg" or the like. Anything but the dreaded #497 killer "59Ef." You will hear that familiar "beep" from the Autostar hand box then the download is complete and your unit will be back to normal. 7. Go back into the "C:\Program Files\Meade\AutostarSuite\Updater" file and delete the "Build59Ef.rom" file and that should put an end to thatMike here: There is an archive of all older versions on the Helpful Information: AutoStar Info: AutoStar Software Archive page on this ETX Site.
Subject: Bad install 59Ef correction Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 18:12:45 From: Kevin & Terri (asterixhb@tiscali.co.uk) Fantastic website. Have used this for many things since buying my LXD 55 SCT about 4 years ago. The help and advice is really appreciated. I've just downloaded the latest version for my Autostar, 59Ef, and lo and behold; it crashed. I found the fix on the following page but found it was slightly incorrect (in my case. Don't know whether it will be the same for everyone. http://www.weasner.com/etx/autostar/2009/bad_download.html At the point where it says :- 2. Unzip 43Eg and place only the "Build43Eg.rom" file into the following directory: C:\Program Files\Meade\AutostarSuite\Updater ...I found it needs to be placed into the subfolder "Ephemerides"; namely:- C:\Program Files\Meade\AutostarSuite\Updater\Ephemerides Hope this helps anyone. Regards Kev G.
