Cable #505 vs #506

Subject:	RE: ETX-70AT cable?

The CD ROM included in the current ETX-70AT box does predate the ETX-70
development. Only the #506 cable set only works by attaching to the
Aux. Port for serial connections. The #506 can therefore work with any
ETX by plugging into the Aux Port (recent level of firmware is required
to do this. Since the ETX-70 Autostar handbox does not have a direct
serial port in the handbox the #506 is required. The #505 cable set is
intended to plug into the serial port on the bottom of the Autostar
handbox. Any system which uses the larger handbox Autostar can use the
#505. I hope that makes the distinction between the two handboxes
clear.

The ETX-60AT REQUIRES the Meade #506 cable/converter set.

The 506 cable has active electronics to convert rs232 to the I2C
bus protocol used by the AUX port (where it connects to your scope).

The 505 cable (the simple db9-to-rj11 cable) WILL NOT WORK
  with the ETX60at and ETX70at....
(unless you buy a 495 or 497 Autostar to control them).
