GUEST PLANETARY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 27 December 2004

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site. You will also find astrophotography examples on the Helpful Information - Astrophotography page.

I took these images with an unmodified Toucam Pro at prime focus on my ETX-90. I have used the (non raw) optimized color mode (http://astrosurf.com/astrobond/ebrawe.htm) and then tweaked a bit the brightness and gain settings. I have overexposed one image to check if I could see Titan. In fact, I was surprised that other moons appeared as well. The image with the moons was a 1 minute long clip at 10 f/s. The other one was a 2 minutes clip at 10 f/s. The images from the AVI files were aligned, stacked and processed using Registax 2.

Here is a photo of the Jupiter/Moon transit through my ETX90 scope at about 5:15 am, December 7th. Used a Nikon Coolpix 995 digital camera and an 18mm lens to take the shot.

Here is a shot of the transit for the sky section of your website. It is small, but pretty cool!

It's a while since I sent you pictures the last time but I frequently visit your great ETX-site. I took this picture of the moon and jupiter at around 9.55 yesterday morning local time (7th of december 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden), just when the sun was coming up. I used a Nikon D1X with a 300/2,8 and a 2x teleconverter. This is equivalent to a 900mm lens on a 35mm camera due to the 2/3 size of the CCD.

A Venus after sunrise. The magnification was very high because of the use of a teleextender.

Hope you can add this to your gallery. It's a stack of 68 frames captured with my Canon A75 using the video function set at 640 x 480. Stacked in Registax and enhanced with that program. This is my first attempt with Saturn and was taken in my back garden in Derbyshire U.K. with my ETX-90 and a 9mm E.P. with 3x optical zoom. Seeing was quite poor. Many thanks, Chris Warburton

Charles here from Boston again I tried to view this mornings occultation and was shocked to see the reappearance of jupiter happen the way it did. I was looking and all of a sudden it was there. I had my two dayghters with me 2 and 3 years old so all I could manage was to take a quick shot with my olympus 2020z and of course my mighty ETX through a Tele Vue 32 mm Pl. 39x I did get both the Moon and Jupiter the low surface brightness washhed out a lot.

Here is another picture with a different contrast and some clouds in the mix
