I was becoming concerned about the force required when tightening the
altitude knob and decided to investigate where the slippage was
occuring. The metal to metal surfaces seemed ok, but the first washer on
the plastic shaft was obviously where the problem lay. I attached this
washer permanently to the shaft with a suitable adhesive. Result - no
more altitude slippage!
