Hi Mike, thanks for your help. I calibrated the motors and trained both
drives and there was a dramatic improvement. Now when I slew
conterclockwise and let go of button its stops, and when I slew
clockwise and stop then it goes counter clockwise about one tooth and
then slews normaly. I probably need to do a more precise drive train. I
did a goto to mars and with a 3x barlow and 10mm eyepeice, it stayed
almost in center of eyepeice for about 25 mins.

Again thanks for your help.

Subject:	right ascension drive problems lxd55

Hi I have encounterd a problem with the right ascension drive wanting to
slew to the west. If I slew to the east it will stop and right away move
back to the west, and contine but very slow to the west. When I first
power up I can slew and everthings fine until I enter time and date and
alignment. I called meade today about a new right ascension unit. I
downloaded the latest autostar version, even reset the handbox, tried a
different cable. Nothing seems to work. Any suggestion would be
appreciated.

Thanks Eddie
Mike here: Have you done a CALIBRATE MOTORS and TRAIN DRIVES? These cure most such problems, assuming it is not a mechanical problem. And I always recommend doing them after any Autostar ROM update.

And:

Hi Mike, thanks for your suggestions. I tried them but no sucess. Ive
got an extra motor that came with the mount, I may try to install it and
see if it helps.

I havent changed any ratios or anything I dont think that could be a
problem.

I guess I will order the ra unit from meade tomorrow, dont no what else
to do.

Thanks

Eddie
Mike here: Does the problem only appear in some orientations and not others? If so, maybe it is a counterweight issue.

And:

Hi Mike, thats ok I know you are busy. I changed the motors yesterday
and it didnt help.

While I had the r.a. unit off, I hooked it up, went through autostar to
the align section and it started to slew about a quarter inch, by
looking at the gears, then slows back down to what I assume is a normal
speed. This is what it does when it is installed on the mount. I
adjusted the worm gear but that made no difference. Looks like to me its
something in the control panel electronics. I changed handbox cables and
it made no difference.

Sorry to ramble on.

Eddie
Mike here: After you installed the new motor did you do a CALIBRATE MOTORS and TRAIN DRIVES? Remember, you have to TRAIN DRIVES on BOTH axes.
