356th Green Demons in Germany
Posted: 26 January 2012
The Green Demons deployed to Lechfeld Air Base, Augsburg, West Germany, in August-September 1976, for "Coronet Redcoat", the first time the A-7 had gone to Europe. We flew non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean from Myrtle Beach AFB to Lechfeld on 30 August, with four inflight refuelings along the way during the 10.2 hour flight. In Germany, some of us got to ride in the backseat of a German Air Force F-104. We returned to Myrtle Beach AFB on 22 September, after four inflight refuelings and an overnight stop at Griffiss AFB, Rome, New York.
