International Space Station (ISS):
Additional Image Processing

Posted: 29 August 2012

I decided to do some additional image processing on the HD video I acquired during the ISS pass of 28 August 2012, as reported on my previous Cassiopeia Observatory report. I selected about 1 second from near the middle of the video with the best view of the ISS as captured by the Nikon D7000 DSLR at prime focus of the Meade 8" LX200-ACF. I saved each frame of the video to individual files using GraphicConverter. Next, I opened the 30 files in Aperture and cropped all the images to the same scale. I exported the images to 30 files using a magnification of about 5X. I then used Lynkeos to stack the 30 images. Image sharpening and a slight levels adjustment were made in GraphicConverter.

This first image is a single frame from the video, upscaled and edited, and is the one on my previous report.

This next image is the stack of 30 frames, upscaled and edited:

The stacked version is just slightly clearer.
