Neither the submitter, myself, nor Meade Instruments are responsible for any damage or problems caused by using any of the software archived here. Downloads have not been virus-checked and are supplied as-is for those users who feel they need to regress their Autostar #495, #497, #497EP, or AutoStar III (through version 1.2g) to a previous version. You will need an "unzip" utility for your PC or Macintosh to unzip some of the archives. The official Autostar Software source remains the Meade web site.

Version 5.9.3 - from Meade's site (04/08/13)
08/06/11 NEW AUTOSTAR UPDATER SOFTWARE NOW AVAILABLE. VERSION 5.9.3 AutoStar Updater version 5.9.3 adds support for the new AudioStar hand controller. Several Autostar updater bugs were also resolved with this update.

Version 5.9 - from Meade's site (08/17/11)
09/18/09 Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Version 5.9. This is the latest Autostar Update. This version is compatible with all versions of AutoStar II, #497 and #494 AutoStar computer controllers. This installation will automatically update the Update Client Application in AutoStar Suite Software. If you have previously installed the Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Uninstall the old version before installing this new version.

Version 5.8 - from Meade's site (10/16/09)
08/01/09 Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Version 5.8. This is the latest Autostar Update. Rev. 5.8 is compatible with the ETX-LS and #497EP Hand Controllers. This version is compatible with all versions of AutoStar II, #497 and #494 AutoStar computer controllers. 2/18/05 Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Version 4.6 (1,654 KB). This is the latest Autostar Update. Rev. 4.6 is compatible with the RCX400 Telescope and Max Mount. This version is compatible with all versions of AutoStar II, #497 and #494 AutoStar computer controllers. This installation will automatically update the Update Client Application in AutoStar Suite Software. If you have previously installed the Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Uninstall the old version before installing this new version.

Autostar Update (ASU) Client Application for Windows, Version 4.1 (1,692 KB). This is the latest Autostar Update. Rev. 4.1 is compatible with the RCX400 Telescope. Version 3.61 - from Meade's site (06/10/05)
Autostar Update Client Application for Windows, Version 3.61 (2,079 KB). This is the latest Autostar Update. Rev. 3.61 adds support for custom user objects (Autostar II only); adds the ability to manage user and site data; improves the reliability of "Verify Downloads" mode; and fixes a connection problem for very old revisions of #497 software. As of Rev. 3.51, the default data transfer rate for Autostar II's was changed to 9600 baud in Safe Mode. This is the safest rate to ensure reliable data transfer. To use a faster rate, click the connect button, and then the Options->Max Baud Rate button. There is no handbox firmware included in this self-extracting executable, but once the Autostar Update program is launched, the latest firmware for your type of Autostar can be automatically retrieved from this web site, if you have an active internet connection. Or select the link for the latest firmware for your type of handbox. It is recommended that Autostar II users with version 1.0x immediately upgrade their handbox to the latest version (1.3t) of the firmware, because several important performance enhancements are included in this revision. Autostar Updater 3.51 (2MB) - from Meade's site (8/31/02)
Autostar Update Client Application for Windows, Version 3.51 (2,099,018 bytes). This is the latest Autostar Update. Rev. 3.5x adds a "Real-Time" Mode for the Autostar II, and an enhanced Tour compiler for support with future handbox upgrades. It also fixes a bug that caused data corruption to occur when large catalogs were sent to an Autostar 494/495/497. Rev. 3.51 makes the default data transfer rate for Autostar II's 9600 baud in Safe Mode. This is the safest rate to ensure reliable data transfer. Rev. 3.50 adds a "Real-Time" Mode for the Autostar II, and an enhanced Tour compiler for support with future handbox upgrades. It also fixes a bug that caused data corruption to occur when large catalogs were sent to an Autostar 494/495/497. Rev. 3.40 adds support for "legacy" (i.e., non-customizable) User Objects and the ability to specify the maximum baud rate for Autostar II data transfer. Autostar Update Client Application for Windows, Version 3.33 (2,273,612 bytes). This is the new Autostar Update, which supports the Autostar II and LX200GPS product line. Rev. 3.33 adds a garbage collection function which may speed up data transfers in Autostar II. There is no handbox firmware included in this self-extracting executable, but once the Autostar Update program is launched, the latest firmware for your type of Autostar can be automatically retrieved from this web site, if you have an active internet connection. Autostar Updater 3.0 and #497 Autostar ROM 2.2Er (3.6MB) - from Meade's site (10/18/01)
Autostar Update Client Application for Windows (3,970,085 bytes). This is the new Autostar Update. It is called ASU but continues the version number. Sequence of the previous Updaters. This includes both ASU(version 3.0), and Autostar #497 firmware (version 22Er). Autostar model. This new version has a completely new user interface which includes drag and drop capability between the library and the handbox. It will be installed in a different directory than the original Autostar Update program. This will allow you to transfer your User Body and Tour data files from the old version to this one. ASU uses a new file for the Autostar program: Build.rom. It is a single file containing both the program and database. You cannot use your old Autostar.rom and dbase.rom files with this program. You do not have to upgrade your handbox firmware to use the User Body and Tour data capabilities of ASU.

Autostar Updater 2.4 and #497 Autostar ROM 2.1ek (3.3MB) - from Meade's site (4/28/01)
Autostar Update Client Application for Windows (3,601,078 bytes). This includes both the Autostar Update tool (version A2.4), and Autostar #497 firmware (version 21Ek).You MUST use this version to upload your Autostar with version 21Ek or above firmware. Older versions of the Autostar Update Utility will NOT correctly install your Asteroids, Comets, Satellites and Tours into the Autostar. This applies to the #497, #495, and #494 Autostar handboxes. Download and double-click Auto.exe to install the software. Use this update tool for the #497, #495 and the #494 Autostar model. This will fix the #494 database bug.

Windows 2000 fix: In order to make Update work under Windows 2000 you must install or reinstall the update program as follows. When prompted for the install directory, change it to "\Program Files\Meade\Autostar Update". If you reinstalled and you have any ephemeride data you want to keep, copy it from the old directory "\Program Files\Meade\Autostar\Autostar Update\Ephemerides" to the new directory "\Program Files\Meade\Autostar Update\Ephemerides". After reinstalling and copying the ephemerides you can delete the old directory "\Program Files\Meade\Autostar".

The new LS telescope version 1.2g software update includes GPS performance improvements for faster and more reliable alignments. This update is available for download now by running the AutoStar Updater (ASU) on your PC and selecting "Upgrade AutoStar Software Now". (212 MB)

#497 Autostar ROM 3.2Ea - from Meade's site (07/13/04)
PEC added for Polar mounted scopes
PEC can be found under Setup - Telescope - Smart Drive. Smart Drive will only appear for Polar Mounted scopes. Smart Drive is for the RA motor only. Run PEC Train first and if needed then run PEC Update after to improve the table. Training for LX90 and LXD55/75 will take about 8 - 9 mins. Training for ETX 90/105/125 will take about 24 mins. To train use the handbox, AutostarSuite with the LPI, or any other autoguider using the #909 Accessory Port Module (if the scope will allow the #909). After training PEC, go to PEC On/Off to turn on PEC to have the scope follow the commands. At the end of your session if you want to keep your training, you have to Park your scope. If you do not park your scope the Autostar will not be able to remember its position on the worm.
For German Mounts, Three Star has been added to the Alignment menu. This will improve pointing.
For Polar mounted scope you can now use any alignment star in the sky.
Improved Satellite tracking for LXD55/75 scopes.
On a Moon Goto, Autostar will change to Lunar tracking rate. Autostar will change back to previously selected rate on the next Goto. Note: If Lunar tracking rate is selected while in Lunar Tracking, it becomes the default rate and the scope will stay at Lunar tracking on the next Goto.
Some serial strings fixed.
Some data base errors fixed.
