Southern Arizona Aurora!

Posted: 12 November 2025

Tuesday night there was a possibility that G3-level Geomagnetic Storms could create Aurora that might be seen from Oracle, Arizona. After it became dark I began closely monitoring the Geomagnetic Storm conditions.

1821 MST: The storm hit G4 level.

1850 MST: I checked the Mt Lemmon and Kitt Peak observatories all-sky cameras and they showed some red along the northern horizon. I stepped outside and although I could not see any Aurora (my eyes were not dark adapted at the point), the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera (Night Mode, 10 seconds, 1X lens) did capture the red Aurora to the north. Unfortunately, some clouds hampered the view.

1930 MST: I could faintly see some red glow with dark adapted eyes.

At various times, I took these iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera app photos (Night Mode, 10 seconds, 1X lens).
