Monsoon Update; Saturn, Spica, Mars, & the Moon
Posted: 24 July 2012
Monsoon clouds returned Wednesday evening, 18 July, as sunset approached. Clouds and some storms continued through Tuesday evening, 24 July 2012. So I did no observing. I took this iPhone panorama image on Sunday, 22 July, as a monsoon storm approached; view is southeast-south-southwest:
Some photos of monsoon storms to the west Monday afternoon, 23 July:
A Time-lapse Video from my live webcam of the 23 July storms is available online.
We had a brief but heavy rain shower Tuesday afternoon, 24 July. Had 0.25" in less than 15 minutes with a total of 0.3" in 30 minutes. As sunset approached, the sky began clearing up slightly. This is sunset, taken with the Nikon D7000 DSLR and 300mm focal length lens:
This view shows Cassiopeia Observatory, the moon, and some clouds shortly after the sun set:
And this is Saturn (top left), Spica (middle left), Mars (middle right), and the Moon (bottom) through some thin clouds, D7000 DSLR, 66mm focal length, f/5.3, 2 seconds, ISO 500:
Due to the clouds, I did not open the observatory.
I have posted photos (and a video) from our recent trip. You can view them on our Washington State Trip page.
