Back on 28 January 2014, I reported that my Meade 2" 99% Reflectivity Mirror Diagonal had developed a problem and was returned to Meade. The replacement arrived on Tuesday, 11 March 2014. But, of course, it was cloudy that night so couldn't check it out. When I mounted the diagonal on the 8" LX200-ACF this night, I discovered that the eyepiece holder screw had been bent in shipment:
The screw would not go in far enough to hold a 2" eyepiece securely. I have contacted Meade and requested that they send me a replacement screw. Stay tuned...
1904 MST: finally powered on the telescope. Strong breezes still blowing. Viewed the waxing gibbous moon, 83X. Took this handheld iPhone 5s afocal photo, 83X:
Switched to 222X magnification and did a quick lunar terminator tour. Some nice sights. This handheld iPhone 5s afocal 222X photo shows the southern region of the moon, with crater Gassendi at the top left and the crater Tycho at the lower right:
