Oracle State Park Trail Music and Star Party
Posted: 10 March 2019
On Saturday, March 9, 2019, a Trail Music and Star Party were scheduled at Oracle State Park. Oracle State Park is an IDA "International Dark Sky Park" so people come to the Park to view our nice dark skies. But such was not to be the case this night.
Visitors could take a pre-sunset walk along the Nature Trail Loop and enjoy the scenic views and live music featuring various artists along the trail. This was an opportunity to experience beautiful melodies of guitar, mandolin, cello, drums, harmonica, banjo, and flute as the sound interacted with the high desert. Here are photos of two of the musicians and some hikers:
As the sun set visitors were invited to relax on the Kannally Ranch House patio to watch the crescent Moon, stars, and planets appear. While the visitors were there, so were clouds:
Members of the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association and the Saddlebrooke SkyGazers Club would have provided telescopes and night sky interpretation. Due to the cloudy skies no telescopes were set up. However, visitors were able to view a gorgeous sunset:
Four of the musicians came together after performing on the trail to play in the Kannally Ranch House living room. They had planned to be on the patio but due to the cold temperature after sunset everyone enjoyed the music in the warmth from the fireplace in the living room.
Thanks to the Friends of Oracle State Park for the music sponsorship.
