GUEST DEEPSKY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 5 July 2006

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site. You will also find astrophotography examples on the Helpful Information - Astrophotography page.

This is an image of M57 taken with an ETX90 OTA. It's made up of 5 ten minute exposures corrected, aligned, stacked, and enhanced using IRAF. I used an ST-7E and a GP mount with Synta motors. But I thought it would be interesting for people to see what you can get with a 90mm scope. It was enhanced to show a bit of detail in the ring.

This shows my image and the DSS image of the same area - just to prove that you can image a mag 14.8 galaxy with a 90mm scope.
Here's a link to the page describing the process... efconsult.homedns.org:8000/astro/images/ST7/update.html

attached are the two best images I have ever managed with my ETX 70. These were taken with the ETX 70 polar aligned- I built a wedge similar to one of the designs in your site-and are around 12 to 15 thirty second images stacked. For the Triffid I used a Orion StarShoot, with an IR and a Minus Violet Filter; for the Centaurus A galaxy I used an Atik 1 C-no filters. Both nights were ordinary in terms of seeing and conditions. If you like them you could add them to your guest astro photography section.

two weeks ago I caught a good night for planetary imaging.
2006-05-11, 23:45 CEST, ETX-125EC with 2x barlow, ToUCam pro at prime focus, 800 out of 2500 frames, North up - West left
Have you noticed the 'black eye' spot within the GRS? Have not seen this in 2005 and earlier.
The short animation in the GIF shows HOW quickly the planet rotates within only 30 minutes.

M82 was taken 2 Nights ago. Nearly full moon, but clear sky. 230 shots taken with Meade DSI on ETX125. Exposure 30 sec. each. IR-Filter and 0.5 focal Reducer. Stacked 10% with Giotto. Result was slightly enhanced in color and contrast. I hope its worth to be posted. Thanks for your great site.

I did 5 Messier's in the Virgo cluster on 1 night! So a good deep sky harvest this time for the ETX90.

It's long ago, but due to the bad weather it was not possible to do deep sky. Until last week. Here Messier 95 and Messier 96 (2 less to go for my ETX90 Messierlist). Maybe nice for your deep sky list. I love deep sky with ETX.
