Last updated: 8 January 2011

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site

I did not know that you have snow at Cassiopeia Observatory until I read your report. We had enough here in Southern Germany all around the holidays; but that's the way we expect it.
Wishing you and Laurraine a healthy and happy new year with lots of clear skies and looking forward to reading and seeing more of your reports.
The new year started great in our region with partial eclipse of the sun on January 4th. I took the chance (and a day off work), got up at 5 o'clock in the morning and...disappointment. As in most parts of Germany the sky was totally overcast with fog and clouds. I checked with weather stations and other willing observers and we found partially clear skies about 200 km southeast of the city. Two hours later I checked in at my observation spot and it became a great day (but very cold with -12C / +10F)
Picture 1: overview / collage
Picture 2: awaiting sunrise
Picture 3: first sight of already eclipsed sun
Picture 4: the moons shade progressing to a sunspot
Picture 5: maximum occultation (about 69%)
Picture 6: most impressive was the strange light / dimmed sun / 'wrong' colors
Picture 7: normal light slowly comming back
Picture 8: did you notice that the bear in the moon was watching earth eclipse too ;-)
