Arthur J. Dyer Observatory Visit
Posted: 16 September 2017
On 18 August 2017, as part of the Sky & Telescope Tour Group for the Total Solar Eclipse, we had a daytime visit to the Arthur J. Dyer Observatory.
Inside were some nice historical displays:
Outside was a Hydrogen-Alpha solar telescope set up for viewing:
The S&T Group was welcomed by the observatory director:
A short walk from the observatory complex is a Camera Obscura:
Once inside the rock dome you see the camera pinhole at the top:
The panoramic views of the surrounding area and sky, including clouds, was impressive:
This is one of the telescopes (fisheye lens):
A parting view of Dyer Observatory:
If you visit Nashville, Tennessee, plan to go to the nearby Arthur J. Dyer Observatory. The Camera Obscura alone is worth it.
