& Oracle Dark Sky Cultural Festival
Posted: 25 September 2022
Clouds arrived in Oracle, Arizona, mid-afternoon on Sunday, 18 September 2022. Monday afternoon, 19 September, the team from Explore Scientific arrived at Oracle State Park for this week's "David H. Levy Arizona Dark Sky Star Party & The Oracle Dark Sky Cultural Festival". First to arrive were two Arkansas amateur astronomers, Clint Branham and Greg Turner, who volunteered to assist Explore Scientific. Later, Scott Roberts, President of Explore Scientific, and Kent Marts, Explore Scientific Technical Support, arrived after a three day drive from Arkansas. There was some rain sprinkles at the Park and a rainbow in the sky over the Park as they were setting up at the camping area.
That night they did a tour of Cassiopeia Observatory in Oracle. The dome was not opened due to the cloudy sky. That night there was 0.03" rain.
On Tuesday, 20 September, preparations continued at the Park and around the community of Oracle. It was a long day and night in Oracle!
Late afternoon there were some thunderstorms in the area. Here are Scott Roberts, President of Explore Scientific, and Vince Micallef, Manager of Oracle State Park, enjoying a rainbow.
Tuesday night, there was a nice lightning show at the Park and some rain (0.11").
