GUEST PLANETARY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 29 June 2006

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site. You will also find astrophotography examples on the Helpful Information - Astrophotography page.

Excellent Seeing period of approx 40mins, enough for me to get in a good AVI of Jupiter. I could almost feel how good it was when I stepped out and even more happy seeing the Live image on the laptop. Io shadow can also be seen. Seeing gradually went worse with Jupiter doing a good jelly impression, but a great Observational night. Minimal processing and kept it as natural as possible.

want to send you a 'strange look' of Jupiter, seen on June 8th where two moons - Ganymede and IO - were standing 'vertically' and Ganymede's shadow thrown onto the polar area. The picture is a composite of the moon positions at 23:20 CEST and the disk and shadow at 23:40.

And additional an older but nice view of Jupiter with GRS just coming around. 2006-05-11, 23:45 CEST, ETX-125EC with 2x barlow, ToUCam pro at prime focus, 800 of 2500 frames, north up - west left.

Please find an image of Jupiter taken on the 7th of June under "fair" conditions. Impossible to image Jupiter with details on the 3XBarlow now, but the 2X is still Getting some nice results.

Concerning the bad weather, work and summertime I hardly have time to do some ETX astrophotography. Attached my first (and last for the next years, concerning the low altitude) of Jupiter. I will be for ever in astrophotography but the times have to be good. So don't be afraid that I quit :-) Hope you can place this one on the planet department to show that it's possible with low altitude, summertime and 5*Barlow to make a 'decent' picture of Jupiter.

Telescope (ETX90) putting right inside the house through closed window. Recording and stacking and sending to you = 20 minutes! Result mwah...but you can see Ganymede shadow. And that in very short time and from within the house through closed window.

Please find image of Jupiter taken with the Meade 125AT taken in pretty good conditions. Details on the image. Had 3 weeks off due to so much observing / imaging that my body was ready to fall apart !
