GUEST PLANETARY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 31 October 2008

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site. You will also find astrophotography examples on the Helpful Information - Astrophotography page.

Another nice night so I just had to get out there, this time with the EXT80 and the LPI- I haven't done too much work with the LPI so I was rather pleased with the results this evening of Jupiter. :-)

Here is a photo of Jupiter and his 4 major Moons plus a star. This photo was taken right around 9:30pm on 9/24/08 with my etx 125 and the sac 7 ccd. This is a 60 sec. avi at 30 fps. processed in registax and cleaned up in photoshop cs2. With Jupiter so low this is the best image I have gotten for a long time. Clear skies to all. Paul

I send you 3 pictures of Jupiter with ist moons and the Great Red Spot which I took here in Northern Germany yesterday and the day before. All shots were taken with my ETX90-PE and the modified Philips SPC900NC. The picture quality is not the best but I thought to share them anyway.

although the skies here in Raleigh, NC seem to be getting more atrocious by the day, I managed to snap off a few pics of Jupiter & the GRS, which I combined into this final image. Turned out OK I think, considering my rippling atmosphere & sodium light infested sky. Thanks.

last night I started my first test with the Meade filter-set on my ETX90-PE. The results are stunning. I thought I'd share two pictures (Jupiter & Jupiter with moons). It is amazing how much one can accomplish with such a small scope. Thanks to your great site I am still improving.

Here is this season's best result of our 'big one' - Jupiter. MEADE ETX-125EC with 2x Barlow and ToUCam pro at prime focus. Two avi's (1400 & 1500 frames) used 600 frames. One processed Giotto, the other one K3CCD, upsized 50%, final rework in PaintShop pro. The pale 'blob' down left is GRS just disappearing.

Per Crenshaw here in Raleigh, NC, where the intense summer humidity and hot weather results in less then ideal skies. But I managed to capture a reasonable pic of Jupiter with its GRS.

here's a somewhat old pic of Saturn from spring, but thought I'd send it in while I was contributing Jupiter pix.

All pictures were shot yesterday night with my ETX90-PE, SPC900NC with 3x barrowlense, grabbed with Giotto (50/50/3%) and tweaked with Paintshop Pro and Photoshop CS3.

Last night I managed a shot of Jupiter with the Great Red Spot (my first time ever seeing it). Thought I also share it besides the other pictures. It was a cloudy sky but still I think the image is ok. The ETX-90 is awesome if you think of the low price (compared to other telescopes). I ordered a set of colored filters to hopefully improve the quality of my observations (and pictures).

Attached are some images of Io transiting across Jupiter, taken night of 1st July from Rutland, U.K. Jupiter is pretty low in the sky and the transit was quite early so I am pleased to have captured some details of planet, including red spot. Io and its shadow can be seen upper left. Taken with a polar aligned ETX 125, 2x apo barlow (except wide shot, no barlow) and a mono USB DMK 21AS camera fitted to a manual Orion filter wheel with Astronomik RGB filters. Camera recorded 1000 frame avi files at 60fps through each filter and roughly 600 best frames RGB stacks saved in Registax and wavelets applied. Final RGB composite was in CS3 with some unsharp masking. I highly recommend the DMK camera as an upgrade to a web cam. It is way more sensitive than my Phillips toucam and the software is great.
