Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site.

I would like to share with you my last astrophotographys.
Title and Description: Venus, Moon and Torre de Belm ( Belm Tower ). In this picture we can see the planet Venus the Moon with a litle Earthshine and The Blem Tower. It was built in the early 16th century in the Portuguese late Gothic style, the Manueline, to commemorate the expedition of Vasco de Gama. This defensive, yet elegant construction has become one of the symbols of the city, a memorial to the Portuguese power during the Age of the Great Discoveries. In 1983 it was classified, together with the nearby Mosteiro dos Jernimos, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A voting elapses at this moment in Portugal to choose the 7 wonders of Portugal(http://www.7maravilhas.sapo.pt/mon21.html#), where we can also find the Tower of Belm. The 7 wonders of Portugal will be presented in the New7Wonders of the Worlds show, that it will occur in Lisbon, Portugal:http://www.new7wonders.com/index.php The image 1- Link: astroarte.astrosite.net/TB-053-OK-net.jpg Image 1-Equipment: HP Photosmart 850. Last night (2250 hrs, 17 June) was a beautiful alignment of Regulus (Leo), Saturn, Venus and a Crescent Moon. They were spaced uniformly across the ecliptic. This illustrates so nicely the movement of the heavens. It was a gorgeous sight for those that noticed it. Just a tripod mounted Nikon 4500 set at 200 ISO for 12 seconds captured this image. |

pleaase find attached photos of two nice constellations with the young Moon (done with digital camera PANASONIC Lumix DMC FZ-30 unguided on tripod) 2007-05-19: Moon close to Venus & Epsilon Gemini (420mm, ISO400, f/3.7, 1s) |

On 2007-05-22 I waited for the occultation of Saturn by the Moon. Before sunset the sky looked nice - but not inspiring confidence. |
|
Later on it started to drizzle so there was no way of setting up a telescope. Anyhow, in a gap between the clouds I quickly grabbed the camera and shot a series of pictures. Two of them showed a small point of light close to the dark side of the Moon - Saturn (9 minutes before occultation) That's all, because after that it started raining. Next chance here in Southern Germany is 2014 - I believe... |

Hello this is a photo that I took at about 10:00pm cst in Park City Kentucky on May 19th 2007. It is of the Moon and Venus. I took the photo using my etx70 with a digital camera mount. I used a Kodak Z700 on auto focus and ten sec. timer to cut down on vibration. Anyway hope you enjoy! |

I like your OO reports - great days (and nights) - and lovely nature
photographs (could be a new hobby?) [Mike here: Always has been!]
Attached the young moon (with some cirrostratus - I suppose) between Plejades and Venus on 2007-04-19, 21:40 CEST with PANASONIC Lumix DMC FZ-30 on tripod (105mm, ISO 400, f/3.7, 10s and the inset 420mm, 2s) out of my backyard. Astonishing what you can do with 'camera on tripod only' astrophotography. |

I thought I would share a few images from the recent April 19th conjunction. We finally got a break in the weather for the Peterborough, Ontario area. The rain and clouds this spring has meant we have missed lots of celestial events.
The attached image was taken with a tripod mounted Nikon 4500 digital camera, from my backyard south of Peterborough around 9:00 p.m. I used 100 ASA setting and 2 seconds (F/3.0). |

A 25-year-old Hanimex (Cosina) camera, Kodak 400 film, and exposures of 1 or 2 minutes at f2 (except the Orion shot). No guiding or touching-up. Doing this right is as much fun as looking through the scope!
1. Crux Australis (with Coal Sack) and Centaurus. Omega Cen is the "gold star" at left centre. |
|
2. Yep, this is how The Hunter looks to us. |
|
3. Clockwise from left: Norma, Circinus, Triangulum Australe, Ara. You don't hear much about this area, and those first two are faint even in a dark sky. |
|
4. Hydrus, with the SMC, and 47 Tucanae below it. Achernar on the far right. |

I thought you would like some pics of the crescent moon and Venus. I also attached a 7 minutes exposure of the north star...All with the D70. |

The brightest this nova got was about magnitude 3.8 (naked eye visibility), on February 16th. By the time I made the attached image on the morning of February 21st, it had dimmed to about magnitude 5.5. I needed binoculars to see this nova on both the 20th and 21st when I was out looking for it. The image I captured here is cropped from a larger over all image of the whole constellation of Scorpius, with Jupiter nearby. A four mega-pixel Nikon Coolpix 4500 piggybacked on a Meade ETX 90 telescope captured this image in a 43 seconds exposure at 100 ASA. I have closed in on Epsilon, the fifth brightest star in Scorpius (mag. 2.3; 65 ly away), as a reference star for locating the nova. |

Nicely fitting to the last postings in the 'Sky' gallery, here is a shot of 2007-01-20, 18:10 CET, the very young Moon - only 1.5 days old - together with Venus along my home street shortly before 'touching down' the horizon. PANASONIC Lumix DMC-FZ30 on tripod with 420mm, ISO400, f/3.7 and 0.5s exposure. Histogram reworked to bring up Earth light shined side. |

With all the hype about Comet McNaught, I thought you might like to see something a little closer to home, that we all could see. The conjunction last night was a beauty! The attached image was taken in my backyard, south of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada from about 5:47 to 6:36 p.m. using a Nikon 4500 digital camera, tripod mounted, ISO 100, 1 second exposure @ f/4.5 |

My friend Dan M took these photos this evening from his home in Pittsburgh Pa. He used a canon 300d and a 300mm pentex lens for the shots. I cleaned them up in photoshop photofilter and noiseware. |
