GUEST LUNAR ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 9 December 2009

Many ETX users have sent examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site.

This is my first real attempt at lunar images using an ETX 70 and the Meade LPI camera. I initially tried single shots but these are very much subject to the atmospheric conditions so I used track and combine to stack 5 images either with or without a lunar filter. I have to say I was pretty pleased with the results from such a small telescope and hope you like them.
This is an excellent site, keep up the good work.

Last night I got my ETX-90 out for first time in a while (been using a Celestron C8-SGT) as the seeing was not very good. I took this image with my Meade LPI and stacked the frames in Registax 5 with final processing in Photoshop CS2. The little ETX performed very well. Tracking was spot on, and it is the old /RA Astro model too. It was perfect for the bad seeing (A-IV).

I thought I would post my efforts from May 4/09. Plato with Montes Alpes and Vallis Alpes, and crater Bullialdus. Both of the images were taken with my etx 80 and modified webcam with the internal barlow in place along with an antares 2x barlow. The processing was done with registax v4 and noiseware. The first image didn't turn out as I had hoped for but I'm still learning.

I finally finished my processing from my April 4/09 work and here is the result. Lunar crater copernicus with my etx 80, internal flip barlow, antares 2x barlow and modified creative labs ultra webcam. Processing was done with with registax v4 and noiseware. Sky clarity was 4/5 but seeing was only 2/5. I hope to post some better images as I climb up the learning curve, as I am still quite new at this. Thanks Mike.
