GUEST SKY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 24 July 2008

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site.

This image probably fits best in the 'Sky' gallery I guess. The International Space Station taken evening of 23rd July from Oakham U.K. with a polar mounted ETX 125 and Nikon D200 on the rear port. I hand tracked the ISS with the clutches disengaged, following it with the finder scope. Exposure was 800th sec@1000 ISO. Image is a composite of 8 frames in Registax. The ISS rotates noticeably in the series of 200+ images so I will attempt an animation at some point.

Lots of useful info on your site, thanks.
I noticed the pic, by Dieter Wolf, of Regulus, Mars & Saturn that he took on 4th July. Attached is one that I took 2 days later of the same objects with the Moon also in attendance. It was taken with an Olympus E510 and 14 - 54 mm lens. Settings were ISO 100, 1 sec @ f4, fl 54 mm, mounted on a tripod. Longer exposures showed more Earthshine on the unlit parts of the moon, but were a bit blurred.

The minnow and the whale. The red M class supergiant Antares about to be engulfed by a small, whitish and slightly gibbous rock. This wasn't listed in S & T, and I only noticed it was going to happen while out for a walk a couple of evenings ago. Olympus E330 and eyepiece projection on an ETX90, 1/3 second. It was the first time I'd tried, and if any experienced astrophotographer saw the way I was going about this, they'd have laughed out loud.

after a long time of inactivity a greeting from Munich, Germany. Hope OO does turn out right for you.
I did an evening walk with my digital camera, PANASONIC Lumix DMC FZ-18 and a tripod on July 4th with the following results:
The three together - Regulus-Mars-Saturn (86mm, ISO80, f/3.2, 6s)
photo

Jupiter with moons (670mm, ISO100, f/3.7, 2.5s) - it's camera only!

though weather has been fine here for weeks - quite unusual for that time of year - I had no time for observations. But I look through the window in the morning and sometimes see interesting constellations. Both done with PANASONIC Lumix DMC-FZ30 at 420mm equivalent focal length right out of the hand. Waiting for Total Lunar Eclipse later this month...

I have a Sun Dog picture for the Guest Astrophotography Gallery. I used my Treo 650 smart phone and my RayBan Polarized sunglasses to catch this pic. I ran them through PSCS with noise ninja to get rid of most of the vertical banding . I hope you find it different and enjoyable.
