GUEST SKY ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY
[Home!]
Last updated: 4 December 2008

Some ETX users have sent me examples of their astrophotography. If you have some examples you would like included here please send me a description of how you made the astrophotos and a copy of the images as GIF or JPEG files (due to internet email gateway issues, please send only one image file per message). Send to etx@me.com. Alternatively, if you have created your own web page with your examples please let me know and I'll include a link to your site.

I'm sure you're going to get a bunch of these, Mike, but here's mine. #2048 (top) was shot at approximately 1645 local time (2145 UT) on 11/29 and shows Jupiter above Venus above the tree-lined horizon; #2049 shows the triad of the Moon, Jupiter and Venus at approximately 17:30 local time (2230 UT) on 12/1. Shot with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400D) using the "kit" lens at 55 mm (80 mm equivalent) focal length, ISO 200, f/8, 4 seconds.

From last night, 12/01/08. The moon meets Jupiter and Venus. A rare astronomical event. Shot in Tallahassee, Florida.

Here are a couple of photos I took of "The Three" tonight. What a beautiful sight. I only have a Nikon Coolpix 7.9 megapixel so there is not much adjusting that can be done. I simply used the Night Landscape setting then touched them up a bit with Paint Shop Pro.

I took this shot of the Plejades last night with the Canon EOS 450D (4 x 30 sec. with 55mm/5.6/ISO200) piggybacked on my ETX-90PE. Despite light pollution due to the moon and Alt/Az-allignment a decent picture.
Mike here: I did some "levels" adjustment to bring out more stars.

another image for the 'Sky' gallery of the ISS. Taken from Oakham in U.K. Following some success using my D200 on the ETX, I thought I would try with a Phillips SPC900 webcam. The resulting image is a stack of 7 frames in Registax. The avi file was approx. 1700 frames and I caught the ISS in only about 15! As previously, the ETX125 was prefocussed on Jupiter and exposure set for Jupiter on assumption ISS is about the same magnitude. I tracked the ISS through the finder scope by hand, with clutches disengaged on the ETX. The finderscope was accurately aligned to the telescope beforehand. I am really pleased with the result.
